TEST YOURSELF

“Examine yourselves to see whether you are in the faith; test yourselves” (2 Cor 13:5, NIV). Have you ever asked yourself, “Why am I a Lutheran?” A Baptist? A Catholic? Usually people answer, “Because that is what my parents were.” We are commanded to test ourselves: are we “In the faith?” This is a term used in the Bible to identify a person who follows the doctrine of Christ, being a member of the church Christ established. The term “the faith” appears over 25 times in the gospel record (see I Tim 4:1, 5:8, Heb 4:14, Jude 3 etc). Example: some say they are “in Pentecost,” not realizing this system of faith promoted by Oral Roberts, Kenneth Copeland, etc, did not exist until 1900 years too late to be “the faith” spoken of in the Bible. How can you “examine” or “test yourself” to prove whether you are “in the faith?” Only by measuring your faith, doctrine, church name, manner of worship, etc., by the Bible, the true ruler, “the faith that was once and for all delivered” (Jude 3).
