NAMES

Hundreds of religious names represent churches today. Most of these names are not in the Bible, not approved by God’s word. “Ye (should) all speak the same thing … no divisions among you … be perfected together in the same mind and in the same judgment” (I Cor 1:10). “Now this I mean, that each one of you saith, I am of Paul; and I of Apollos; and I of Cephas; and I of Christ. Is Christ divided? Was Paul crucified for you? Or were ye baptized in the name of Paul?” (vs 12-13, KJV). To give honor to a man such as Luther or John the Baptist over the name of Christ, or to elevate a kind of church government like “Episcopal” or “Presbyterian” is to add what God never intended. “Fellowship” and “Gateway” are further examples of unbiblical community church names. “There is “no other name given among men whereby we must be saved” (Ac 2:42). All that we do in word and in deed should be in the name of Christ, by His authority (Col 3:17; Mt 28:18). The church is the bride of Christ, hence should honor Him by wearing His name (2 Cor 11:2). The family of God and Christ should wear His name (I Tim 3:15; Eph 3:14-15).
