DRINKING

drinking“The acts of the sinful nature are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery; idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions and envy; drunkenness, orgies and the like … those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God” (Gal 5:19-21).

Drinking leads to drunkenness. It is a “work of the flesh after, bringing more evil upon the human than any other sin of mankind. Look at the newspaper or listen to news reports about the shame, fighting and murder brought upon mankind: ruin of the family, wrecked lives, indecencies, shame, proverty, theft, murder, disease and death. Billions of dollars are spent each year on alcohol in the USA, more than is spent on bread! Crime soars where alcohol has been legalized. The cost of law enforcement to control drinking is staggering, yet the industry glamorizes drinking into respectability, even in communities that profess Christianity.

The Bible is clear on this.“Wine is a mocker and alcohol leads to brawls. Anyone who is led astray by these is not wise” (Prov 20:1).“Because of drinking … they can’t even walk a straight line. Their priests and their prophets are drunk … every table is covered with vomit and filth” (Isa 28:7- 8).“How terrible it will be for those who give alcohol to their neighbors … making them drunk so they can look at their nakedness!” (Hab 2:15)Also see Prov 23; Hos 4:11; Rom 14:21; Dan 1:8 (IEB).
