CELIBACY

It is not uncommon to read reports  of priests’ involvement in sexual sin.  It sometimes also occurs with others.  Why is this so much more prevalent  among Catholic priests than among  other church leaders? The cure is found  when the cause is discovered. As the  old farmer once said, “Kill the spider so  his cobweb will disappear!”

All Bibles say, “Let marriage be held  in honor with all and the marriage bed  be undefiled, for God will judge the  immoral and adulterers” (Heb 13:4).  The original Greek word translated  marriage bed is “coitus” (sex). I Cor  7:2 says: “For fear of fornication, let  every man have his own wife.” Church  leaders (bishops, elders) “must be the  husband of one wife” (I Tim 3:2-4).  The Catholic dilemma is that the  church’s laws are against their Bible  (all Bibles). Both cannot be right. Jesus  warned against man-made religious  laws (Mk 7:6-9). We will be judged  by the Scriptures, not by church laws  that “make void the word of God.” We  must learn and “speak the very words  of God” (I Peter 4:11).
